Second-hand and refurbished MacBook Air

From the MacBook Air 2018 to the very latest Air with an M5 chip

MacBook Air & MacBook Pro

The MacBook Air is the laptop most people are really looking for: light, quiet and with a battery that lasts a full working day. Since Apple switched to its own Apple Silicon chips, even a second-hand Air from 2020 is still fast enough for studying, work and photo editing.

We mainly stock models with an M-series chip, but we still sell plenty of Intel versions too. Every MacBook Air is tested, and you get a 1-year warranty and an original Apple charger.

Torn between an Air and a Pro? The Air is lighter and, from the M1 (2020) onwards, has no fan, making it completely silent. The MacBook Pro is better if you do a lot of video editing or run demanding applications.

Why do so many people choose a MacBook Air?

The MacBook Air is Apple's most popular laptop, and for good reason. It is thin, light and easy to take anywhere. Since the arrival of Apple Silicon (M1 and newer), the MacBook Air no longer has a fan, making it whisper-quiet. The battery also lasts a full working day: according to Apple, the MacBook Air M1 delivers up to 18 hours of video playback.

For browsing, email, Office, notes, video calls and light photo and video editing, a MacBook Air is more than enough for most users. Ideal for studying, home use and office work.

Which MacBook Air is right for you?

Each generation of MacBook Air has its own strengths. Here is an overview.

MacBook Air 2018 and 2019 (Intel)

The MacBook Air 2018 and 2019 have a sharp 13.3-inch Retina display, Touch ID and an Intel Core i5 processor. The 2019 model also has True Tone, which adjusts the display to the ambient light. An affordable entry-level choice for browsing, email and Office. Please note: macOS Sonoma is the last major macOS version for these models.

MacBook Air 2020 (Intel)

The Intel version released in early 2020 received the improved Magic Keyboard with a scissor mechanism, offering a more comfortable and reliable typing experience than the keyboards on older models. This MacBook Air supports up to and including macOS Sequoia and is a good choice for everyday use, such as Office, Photoshop and browsing.

MacBook Air M1 (2020)

The MacBook Air M1 was a breakthrough: much faster than the Intel models, with no fan and exceptionally long battery life. It is still one of the best choices for value for money. We particularly recommend the MacBook Air M1 to students and people who are often on the move, thanks to its low weight and long battery life. Its integrated graphics chip even allows you to do light video editing.

MacBook Air M2 and M3 (2022–2024)

The M2 brought a completely new design to the MacBook Air: a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, a better 1080p camera and the return of MagSafe charging (we have never understood why MagSafe was dropped in the first place). This generation is also available with a 15-inch display. The M3 is a little faster still and can drive two external displays when the laptop lid is closed.

MacBook Air M4 and M5 (2025 onwards)

The latest generations of MacBook Air are more powerful than ever and come with more memory as standard. Ideal if you want the very latest technology and a laptop you can use for many years to come. We regularly have these models in stock as open box or in as-new condition.

13 or 15 inches?

The 13-inch MacBook Air is the lightest and fits in any bag: perfect if you are often on the move. The 15-inch version (from the M2 onwards) offers more screen space for multitasking, spreadsheets and films, but is slightly larger and heavier. If you mainly work at home or in the office, the 15-inch model is a great choice.

How much memory and storage do you need?

For browsing, email, Office and streaming, 8GB of memory is enough. If you use lots of applications at once, keep many tabs open and do a lot of photo and video editing, choose 16GB. This also makes your MacBook Air more future-proof.

As for storage, 256GB is enough if you do not keep lots of photos and videos on your MacBook, preferring to store them on an external hard drive. If you have lots of photos, videos or large files, choose 512GB or more. Even if you use iCloud storage, it is sensible to have enough storage space on your MacBook itself.

Important: you cannot upgrade the memory or storage in a MacBook Air later. Choose the right configuration from the start. Unsure? Ask for personal advice, and we will find the exact match together, so you do not pay for what you will not use.

Refurbished or second-hand MacBook Air: what is the difference?

A second-hand or used MacBook Air is usually sold as received, without any parts being replaced. A refurbished MacBook Air from iMac and More has been repaired where necessary using original Apple parts. If the battery capacity falls below 80%, we replace the battery. If there is a small crack in the bezel (the border around the screen), we replace just the bezel rather than the entire display. This gives you the price of a second-hand MacBook Air, with the reassurance of a fully tested machine and a 12-month warranty.

Why buy a MacBook Air from iMac and More?

  • Honest cosmetic grading: A, B or C
